Pristine Guadalcanal forests to become eco tourism hotspots

Pristine forests on Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands are set to attract eco-tourists after an injection of funds from the government.

The Solomon Islands government has given two projects a nearly 80 thousand US dollar kick start.

The government says the projects will transform the untouched forests of Popomanseu and Makara Komburu in South Guadalcanal and Suta in Central Guadalcanal into eco-tourism destinations.

The funds will go towards helping local resource owners develop the projects in line with the government's National Coalition for Rural Advancement policy.

The policy promotes eco-tourism as a catalyst for development in rural areas.
