The premier of Niue, Toke Talagi, is meeting with the Reef Group and its receivers this afternoon following revelations the company is in receivership.
Reef has extensive shipping and fishing operations across the Pacific, providing services to ten island nations.
In Niue's case, in addition to shipping services, Reef together with the government, also owns a noni farm and a fish processing plant that has been in mothballs for several years.
Mr Talagi says he can't speculate on what the outcome of today's meeting might be.
"And I can't say anything further than that at this particular point in time. From what I have read in the newspapers the receivers are keen for the business to continue but we will know more about their plans this afternoon."
