Fiji's interim prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has been unanimously elected Chairman of the International Sugar Organisation.
A government statement says Commodore Bainimarama, who also heads the Sugar Ministry accepted the chairmanship in London where he is attending the Organisation's 21st seminar.
In his acceptance speech, the Commodore pointed out Fiji's commitment towards advancing the work of the ISO, adding this is a great honour for his country.
He also highlighted how recent reforms implemented by his government has salvaged one of Fiji's most crucial industry.
Commodore Bainimarama also conveyed Fiji's commitment to hosting the 2013 ISO Meeting.
Earlier this week, Britain's Trade Union Congress had said the ISO must be staggeringly naive or grossly irresponsible to consider making a military dictator its chair.
