The world renowned travel guide Lonely Planet has included American Samoa as one of the top 10 US Destinations to visit in 2013.

American Samoa features at number five on the list.

The magazine's editor, Robert Reid, says American Samoa is a longer trek than Hawaii, but the distance rewards the visitor with some of the most stunning, untouched beauty of the Pacific.

He says the territory has a National Park that even the most ardent park system fans won't have checked off their list yet.

The American Samoa Visitors Bureau's executive director, David Vaeafe, says the worldwide announcement will give American Samoa a huge boost in its efforts to promote and grow tourism.

He says this is a first for American Samoa and shows that the territory is an undiscovered paradise.
