11:20 am on 10 December 2012

Fiji have made a commanding start to the Hockey World League Round One tournament in Suva.

The men put seven goals past Papua New Guinea on Sunday before the women trounced Vanuatu 17-1.

The PNG women also won their first match against Samoa on Saturday.

The Fiji women maintained their run in the Oceania Pacific Cup, edging New Zealand Maori 1-0.

Australia Country's men thumped Vanuatu 9-1 with the women picking up wins over New Zealand Maori and Papua New Guinea.

The Vanuatu men open their World League campaign against PNG on Mondat and coach Peter Robinson says his team is ready.

"The boys are pretty primed for the tournament - the last couple of weeks we've been training five days a week for a couple of hours a day. Sometimes the boys will come and train and just work on individual skills on their own - do short corners or individual things they need to work on so they're pretty dedicated and really exicted about this tournament."
