Samoan linebacker Manti Te'o has missed out on the top award in US college football, finishing a close second for the Heismann Trophy.

Notre Dame's Te'o, who was raised in Hawaii and is of Samoan heritage, finished behind Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, with Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein third, when the award was given out in New York.

Despite missing out on the top gong, Te'o has already picked up the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp national player of the year award, Bednarik Award, Butkus Award, Nagurski Trophy and Lombardi Award.
