Reserve Bank of Fiji to phase old note designs by end of 2013

The Reserve Bank of Fiji has launched new currency designs and will be phasing out old notes by the end of 2013.

The new designs feature Fiji flora and fauna and drop images of the Queen.

The new notes and coins will be officially released into circulation in two weeks.

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Barry Whiteside, says the phase out will not apply to old coins:

"For the coins we will continue to co-circulate the old design with the new design so we will not be removing the old coins from circulation. They are the same size and specifications."
