Fiji's Prime Minister to continue visits to cyclone-affected areas

7:22 am on 19 December 2012

Fiji's Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama will today continue to visit areas affected by Cyclone Evan in the West of the country's main island of Viti Levi.

A state of natural disaster has been declared for the Northern and Western division, and will be in effect for 15 days.

The Rewa river, which had burst its banks, flooding nearby areas, is reportedly receding.

Commodore Bainimarama was yesterday briefed on the operations and the situation on ground in the Western Division.

He was also informed of the challenges the disaster officials were facing in trying to collect data from the different areas and evacuation centres.
