Solomons open new Guadalcanal police headquarters

12:55 pm on 19 December 2012

The Solomon Islands Minister of Provincial Government, Silas Tausinga, says the new provincial police headquarters should be a lighthouse for the people of Guadalcanal.

At the opening of the new facility at Henderson, Mr Tausinga says it should build the confidence of the community and investors alike.

Guadalcanal Province has been without a police headquarters for more than 11 years after the previous facility was destroyed during the ethnic tension.

The Regional Assistance Mission's Special Coordinator, Nicholas Coppel, says the new headquarters are physical proof of the improved security environment in Solomon Islands.

He says the new facility is designed to make a statement about law and order and gives local and international travellers physical proof of the development of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
