Voter registration for 2013 French Polynesia election ends

2:56 pm on 31 December 2012

The registration of voters for next year's territorial election in French Polynesia ends tomorrow.

A new assembly is to be elected in two rounds of voting in April and May under a new electoral system.

Those encouraged to register are people who recently turned 18.

Voters who took part in this year's French presidential and parliamentary elections are automatically on the rolls.

The voting system has been criticised by the ruling pro-independence party which has not excluded a possible election boycott.
