Police Commissioner for American Samoa appointed

A veteran law enforcement officer with the U.S. government has been appointed by Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga as police commissioner of American Samoa.

William "Bill" Haleck, a native of American Samoa, had served with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or DEA for 24 years before he retired.

His job with the DEA brought him to Pago Pago several times where he worked closely with local authorities.'

He also worked with other federal law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S.

His appointment is subject to Fono confirmation.
