Holiday incidents revive Samoa alcohol sale debates

2:14 pm on 9 January 2013

Samoa police are reminding businesses to be careful with the sale of alcohol after a number of alcohol-related incidents over the holiday period.

The police say a death reported over the period was alcohol-related, along with several disturbances and traffic incidents.

The police spokesman, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, says police have worked with businesses to minimise the impact of alcohol.

"This is the concern, local stores selling it to people already drunk, considered drunk. Not only through local stores, but also bars and nightclubs. Also, the individual responsibility to be responsible drinkers themselves."

Leaupepe Fatu Pula says businesses must also be careful to ensure they are not selling alcohol to minors.
