Guam congresswoman reintroduces war claims bill

5:48 pm on 9 January 2013

Guam's delegate to the US Congress, Madeleine Bordallo, has re-introduced legislation to advance the territory's war claims legislation.

Ms Bordallo has taken her oath of office, administered by the House Speaker John Boehner, for the new Congress, and her first legislative act was to re-introduce the Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act.

The Saipan Tribune reports her as saying she looks forward to building on the progress towards the war claims legislation.

She says the text for the bill now includes a funding offset for the cost of the bill, after concerns were raised by fiscal conservatives.

Ms Bordallo says the compromise continues to uphold the intent of recognising the people of Guam for their loyalty to the United States during the Second World War.
