The Malaita Ma'asina Forum says if the Leadership Code Commission is to consider a sexual misconduct case against the Solomon Islands prime minister it should do so at the earliest opportunity.

A facebook group has lodged a case with the Commission against Gordon Darcy Lilo after publishing allegations that he paid compensation over an affair with a Malaitan woman.

Mr Lilo is taking a defamation case against both the facebook group and the Solomon Star newspaper, which also published the allegations.

The Forum's general secretary, Charles Ashley, says following demands for compensation from people on both sides of the dispute it is in everyone's interests that the matter be resolved quickly.

"It is not only the prime minister it is his family, there are also relatives involved and basically the last thing we want is for this thing to go out of hand. We believe that once this is handled by the appropriate bodies like the Leadership Code Commission or the courts then people will start respecting the rule of law."

Charles Ashley says the Forum wants Gordon Darcy Lilo to resign while the Commission investigates the allegations of misconduct.
