Sport: EAP cricketers chasing top two finish

11:09 am on 14 January 2013

The East Asia Pacific cricketers are targeting a top two finish heading into the final days play at the Australian Country Champs in Bundaburg, Queensland.

The EAP team beat Western Australia Country by three wickets in a one-day match on Sunday, with skipper Chris Amini and PNG teammate Norman Vanua sharing seven wickets as Western Australia were bowled out for 163.

Amini then added 30 with the bat to help the EAP team reach their target inside 41 overs, and says the goal now is to keep the momentum and finish strong.

"We are confident. We want to finish as high as possible - we finished fourth last year. We're currently fourth at the moment and depending on the other results we're hoping to finish as high as possibly as we can so hopefully second will be a good position for us and we will be looking to do that with a win,"

If the EAP can secure a fourth win in Monday's final match against Northern Territory it would break their team record of three wins, set at last year's tournament.
