Fiji's Trades Union Congress to form political party

The Fiji Trades Union Congress has announced it will form a political party.

During its Special Delegates Conference on Saturday, the Congress decided workers in the country needed a political party to address what they describe as great challenges during the military coups and attacks on workers' rights and human rights in Fiji.

The Conference resolved unanimously that workers and the common people need a voice to address the concerns of the people, a party to bring all people, irrespective of race, colour or creed as one people with a common cause.

In a statement, the Trades Union Congress says the Conference, attended by 400 people, mandated the National Council of FTUC to do whatever is necessary in the formation of a movement and a party.
