New Caledonia outside French terror alert over Mali war

1:33 pm on 15 January 2013

The French High Commission in New Caledonia says some of the measures of the latest French terror alert over the war in Mali don't apply to New Caledonia.

Paris raised the alert level to red, which is the second highest, for fear of reprisals over last week's launch of a bombing campaign against Islamist groups in control of northern Mali.

The alert is nationwide but the High Commission in Noumea says some measures have been declined because of what it calls New Caledonia's context.

The High Commission statement didn't elaborate what security meaures are in place.
