The Tonga Rugby Union's first female CEO says growing the women's game is high on her agenda.

The former Tonga Ambassador to China, Emeline Tuita, who has been appointed for a one-year term, previously volunteered some time helping the interim administration.

She says ensuring stability in the administration, after a few turbulent years, is a key task but she also wants to see more women taking up the game.

"Culturally we are still trying to get there in developing more women to be involved in the sport of rugby. But with inclusion and participation in international games such as the Olympics and in Rugby World Cup or tournaments, this has certainly given the profile that a culture like we have in Tonga, allowing for women to be participating in the sport of rugby, to be acceptable socially."
