Prisoner in Samoa faces murder charge after death of New Zealand man

The Police in Samoa have charged a twenty one year old inmate at Tafaigata prison over the death of a 38 year old New Zealand man, Hans Dalton, on Boxing Day.

The police say the prisoner is charged with murder and he will appear in court next Monday.

The police had said the man had died of suicide in prison in which the body was found in a gallon of water upside down.

The assistant police commissioner, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, says the police professional standard unit is conducting an internal investigation questioning all prison officers who were on duty while Mr Dalton was kept in the main prison.

The assistant commissioner also says its likely several warders may face charges in relation to the death of Mr Dalton.
