A Tropical Cyclone alert is in force for Aitutaki and Palmerston in the Cook Islands as Tropical Cyclone Garry continues to move east towards the Cooks group.
The Fiji Met Service says the Category Two at midnight was about 685 kilometres northwest of Aitutaki or 435 kilometres north-northwest of Palmerston and is moving at 10 knots.
It says winds close to its centre are estimated to be 120 kph with momentary gusts of 166 kph.
Garry is expected to bring damaging gale force winds over Aitutaki and Palmerston in the next 24 to 48 hours.
