A new task force has been formed in Vanuatu, aimed at tackling corruption in Government and the public service.
The Vanuatu Association of Non Governmental Organisations has established a new group, the Vanuatu Corruption Commission, saying it was prompted by recent scandals including the saga involving State Ministers over the mega yacht Phocea.
Another major ongoing scandal involves accusations against the Lands Department and Ministry selling public land at discount rates to department staff.
A reporter for the Vanuatu Independent Evelyn Toa says it's a step in the right direction but more collaboration is needed.
"We need everyone to join hands and to fight all the corruption in Vanuatu. I think the main reason being for the NGOs in Vanuatu to pull together and form the commission was that no action was taken following the issues of cases after cases after cases affecting the nation."
