The new director of American Samoa's Department of Health is promising to make the fight against non communicable diseases a priority during his 4 year tenure.

Motusa Tuileama Nua was fully confirmed by the Fono late last week.

Lawmaker, Larry Sanitoa, says the most critical problem in the territory is people's health with 60 percent of deaths caused by NCDs.

A recent conference also revealed American Samoa is the fattest country in the world.

Motusa promised the lawmakers combatting NCDs will be a top priority for him and the department.
