The American Samoa Governor has asked Bank of Hawaii headquarters to consider delaying its departure from the territory for 12 months.

Lolo Matalasi Moliga is hoping for a smooth transition for customers to ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank.

In a letter to the Bank of Hawaii last week, Governor Lolo offered apologies to the bank's chief operating officer David Thomas for negative actions of the previous administration which may have contributed to the bank's decision to close.

Governor Lolo has asked for a 12 month delay of the bank's departure from American Samoa, saying the only other commercial bank is a branch of ANZ Guam.
