4:10 pm on 12 February 2013

French Polynesia's health authorities say a resident of Moorea has been diagnosed with dengue.

This is the territory's first dengue case in four years.

The health ministry is advising the public to eliminate the breeding grounds of the disease-carrying mosquitoes.

New Caledonia has been hit by dengue since early December, with more than 500 cases confirmed so far.
