A member of a special committee that reviewed the resolution that led to the impeachment of the Governor of the Northern Marianas has accused the Governor of trying to influence him to vote against the impeachment.

On Tuesday, Governor Benigno Fitial was impeached by the House of Representatives on 18 charges of corruption, felony and neglect of duty.

A Representative Chris Leon Guerrero says the Governor used an emissary to arrange a meeting between the two around the time his daughter's job application with a government agency was pending.

Mr Guerrero refused to go into any further details about the meeting.

He voted for impeachment.
