Two young men have been sent to prison and three others fined by a magistrate in Lata on public disorder offences followng this month's tsunami in Solomon Islands

Magistrate Eastern, Rodgers Tovosia, imposed a seven months prison term and six months suspended sentence on a young man who tried to burn down the Lata police station last week.

Another man received three months imprisonment for intimidating police.

Five others were either fined or will await further court appearances.

Our correspondent in Solomon Islands says police numbers in Lata have been beefed up to keep law and order amid public frustration over delays in the distribution of relief supplies.

Disaster management officials say emergency relief supplies have now reached most of those affected.
