A pathologist has told a court in Tonga a New Zealand policeman died as a result of injuries including blows to the head and strangulation.
The pathologist Dr Fintan Garavan was giving evidence on the second day of a preliminary inquiry into Kali Fungavaka's death at the Magistrate's Court in Nuku'alofa.
Mr Fungavaka died last August a week after an alleged assault following his arrest for drunkeness.
Six people, including five policemen and a civilian, have been charged with manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm.
Dr Garavan is among 32 witnesses who will be giving evidence at the inquiry.
Yesterday, the court heard from another witness, Andre Manu, who said he heard and saw officers beating the victim while he was at the police station.
