CNMI visitor arrivals up 3 percent in January 2013

Visitor arrivals to the Northern Mariana Islands were up 3 percent for January 2013 compared to the same month a year ago.

According to the Marianas Visitors Authority, arrivals to the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota registered 39,391 visitors in January, compared to just 38,263 for the same period the year before.

Arrivals from the islands' main tourism market of Japan for the month was essentially flat at 15,217 visitors, 3 percent below January 2012 levels.

Arrivals from Korea rose slightly by 4 percent to 13,241 visitors, while tourists from China rose 2 percent to 7,791 visitors in January 2013.
