Papua New Guinea police says criminal investigations into the Rabaul Queen disaster will find out exactly how many people went missing when the ferry sank last year.
The Commissision of Inquiry into the disaster was unable to determine how many people died, but said between 142 and 161 people perished when the ship sank near Lae last year.
The newspaper, The National, reports the director for criminal investigative division Peter Guiness as saying survivors and relatives of those who were missing would know and be able to give names of the missing, presumed dead.
He says there were children below the age of five and their names are not on the manifest.
Mr Guiness says investigations were scheduled for two weeks but are likely to take more time.
