Fiji's Commissioner of Police, Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua has told his officers to verify an international media report claiming some people who may reside in Fiji have met with the Taliban in Pakistan.

Brigadier Naivalurua told FBC they had received the information from an Agence France-Presse report last month.

A member of the Taliban told the agency a few months ago, that they had even welcomed some people from Fiji for the first time.

The Brigadier says they are using their police network abroad to assist in their investigation.

He adds he won't be able to comment any further as the investigation is in the early stages.

The article titled "Pakistan Still Global Jihad Hub" reported on the growing number of foreign recruits in the Taliban in Pakistan.
