1:23 pm on 4 March 2013

One of Samoa's Ministry of Police and Prisons assistant commissioner and media officer, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, has failed to be appointed for a second three-year term.

Our correspondent says according to a reliable police source, three candidates including the outgoing assistant commissioner were recommended but did not meet the approval of cabinet.

The decision now sees three new assistant police commissioners appointed and they are Superintendent Michael Soonalole, Fauono Tala Tapu, and Nafo'i Talaimanu Keti.

They will join Leiataua Aviga Salale who will head the police office on Savaii island and Sala Seaga uili Lafaele, who continues to head the main prison at Tafaigata.

There is no indication as yet of who will be responsible for the media.
