The Solomon Islands government has lifted a three-year ban on harvesting and exporting of beche-de-mer products.
But the government says harvesting, buying and exporting of beche-de-mer products will only be allowed for three months only as the ban will be re-introduced on May the 21st.
Before lifting the ban, the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources issued a notice in the newspapers which called for applications from business houses and individuals wanting to export the sea cucumber.
Up to 70 applications had been received, but only six licenses to export beche-de-mer will be given out by the ministry's export licensing committee.
