New CNMI governor still has to gain people's trust, says activist

A political activist in the Northern Marianas says the new governor is making good progress with cleaning up corruption.

Eloy Inos took over the top job when Benigno Fitial resigned last month after being impeached by the legislature on charges of felony, corruption and neglect of duty.

Glen Hunter says the close relationship that Governor Inos had with Mr Fitial means that people are cautious about whether he will make any difference to the territory's politics.

"Because of his close relationship with the former governor, and because of all the years they've spent working together, a lot of people are cautious, but still trying to be optimistic."

Glen Hunter says Mr Inos needs to be aware that the public is closely watching his every move and he still has to gain the public's trust before the next election.
