Sport: Win, loss and a draw for Island teams in Pacific Rugby Cup

11:41 am on 19 March 2013

Samoa A secured their first victory of the Pacific Rugby Cup, with Ki Anufe slotting a penalty goal on fulltime to edge the Blues Development team 19-17 in Auckland on Monday night.

Fiji Warriors are still unbeaten after being held to a 37-all draw against the Highlanders Development team.

Meanwhile Tonga A are still searching for their first win after being thrashed 68-3 by the Hurricanes Development Team in Lower Hutt.

'Ikale Tahi halfback Samisoni Fisilau managed a try against his countrymen, who had two players sinbinned during the match.

Coach Mana 'Otai says the visitors were 'outpassioned' by the Hurricanes team and a lack of discipline didn't help.

"It's just one of those things we are trying to eliminate from our game. Out of the three games we had in Australia we only had one card and to get two tonight, that's disappointing. Again it's just lazy options - instead of putting the full shoulder and wrap they opt for that - and I must admit that was as a result of the pressure. We had to chase hard and when we got stepped I guess there was no option but the old coat-hangers."

In the other game on Monday, the Reds College XV thumped the Japan Juniors 59-14.

The next round of PRC matches in on Saturday.
