The New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully says there is a lot of private interest in next week's Pacific Energy Summit in Auckland.

He says more than 100 local and international companies will participate in the event, which aims to put Pacific nations in touch with major donors to boost investment in renewable energy projects in the region.

Mr McCully says a showcase during the summit will feature 80 exhibitors, with the latest renewable energy technology on display.

In addition, more than a dozen Pacific Island countries and territories will have booths where they will present their plans for energy development as well as projects that are already under way.
