The father of a 5 year old i-Kiribati girl, Viana Benetito, who underwent surgery in India last year has accused local doctors in Kiribati of negligence and carelessness.
Tiaon Benetito says he is now demanding compensation from the Ministry of Health.
Viana had surgery on two occasions at Tungaru Central Hospital on Tarawa for a bowel complaint but her condition worsened.
She was then sent to India.
Mr Benetito says doctors in India discovered a number of mistakes made by the local doctors which the Kiribati Ministry of Health has since accepted and it says it has made arrangements with the family to settle their complaint.
But Mr Benetito says he is now taking his complaint directly to the Minister of Health and wants monetary compensation.
