No end in sight to French Polynesia hospital strike

3:46 pm on 25 March 2013

A doctors' strike at French Polynesia's main hospital is to enter a fifth day, with no end in sight.

Their union says the strike action has now been tighetened as patients from outlying islands will no longer get scheduled surgery, leaving only care for emergencies.

The labour dispute was triggered by the territorial administration refusing to transfer a doctor's seniority within the French system into a local contract.

There have been no negotiations since the stoppage started last week.
