The Ministry of Education in the Solomon Islands has cancelled school holidays that were gazetted for next week, and ordered all schools to recommence classes next Tuesday.
The order comes a week into an ongoing strike by teachers.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Fred Rohurua, told Radio Australia it is more important for students to get a full year of school and they have already had a week off due to the strike.
The Ministry has warned that if teachers fail to show up they will face disciplinary action, including possible dismissal.
