Vanuatu public servants under attack for tardiness

4:24 pm on 29 March 2013

Vanuatu's Minister of Tourism Development and Commerce, Marcellino Pipite, has reprimanded bureaucrats for their lack of punctuality.

The Minister made the remarks in the presence of donor partners and business people at a meeting organised by the National Trade Development Committee to put the new Moana Carcasses Government on the right economic path.

A senior official, who asked not to be named, says punctuality is the biggest problem among public servants.

He said public servants do not care about turning up on time because their salaries are guaranteed, whereas people working in the private sector are punctual because they know they have to work to earn their pay.
