The last Papua New Guinea Defense Force, PNGDF troops serving with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands were farewelled at a ceremonial parade held at RAMSI headquarters in Honiara on Monday.

Soldiers from the Australian Defense Force, ADF who have been serving in the RAMSI Military contingent for the past four months were also farewelled.

A media statement from the RAMSI Special Coordinator's office says a replacement ADF contingent and soldiers from the Tongan Defense Service were also welcomed at the parade.

Acting RAMSI Special Coordinator, Wayne Higgins, told SIBC that like the New Zealand platoon that left last November, the PNGDF's departure is part of the phased withdrawal of the military contributions to the mission.
