Bainimarama says current Fiji government will make up his political party

Fiji's regime leader Commodore Frank Bainimarama says his new political party will be made up of members of the current government.

The Fiji Sun reports Commodore Bainimarama as saying the party would be launched early next year.

The regime leader says the priority now is to prepare the country for the 2014 elections.

Commodore Bainimarama was answering questions from villagers in Naitasiri as part of a government exercise to explain its draft constitution.

The leader revealed two weeks ago that he would stand for election but had yet to form a party.

Meanwhile military chief of staff Brigadier General Mohammed Aziz has told the Sun the military will give Commodore Bainimarama its support to continue as leader.

People in Fiji are subject to hefty fines or imprisonment if they purport to be speaking as a political party unless it has been registered.
