The Vanuatu Prime Minister, Moana Carcasses Kalosil, says the former Speaker, George Wells, has been suspended from Parliament until the end of the year because he says, he behaved unconstitutionally.
Mr Carcasses was referring to Mr Wells closing the last ordinary session of Parliament last month to avoid a motion against himself.
On Satuday the Vanuaaku Party MP for Maewo constituency, Philip Boedoro, became the new Speaker in an extra-ordinary session of Parliament, after Mr Wells had resigned.
Mr Boedoro got 33 votes from prime minister's Moana Carcasses Kalosil coalition with 17 against.
The suspension means Mr Wells cannot attend Parliament until the end of this year.
The former prime minister and current deputy leader of the opposition, Sato Kilman, has condemned the suspension.
