Solomon Islands teachers march postponed

12:56 pm on 10 April 2013

A proposed march by the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association has been postponed because of concerns for public safety.

The SIBC reports that the decision was made after a meeting between SINTA representatives and the Police Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader has called for the Education Minister, Dick Ha'amori, to be sacked over his failure to address an ongoing teachers' strike.

In parliament, Dr Derek Sikua called on the Prime Minister to terminate the appointment of his education minister, who is currently overseas at a UN education conference.
