Solomon Islands teacher to end strike

3:11 pm on 12 April 2013

Teachers in Solomon Islands are expected to return to classrooms on Monday after an agreement was reached between the government and their union to end their strike.

The strike has lasted a month although some teachers returned to work early.

The Solomon Star reports that the agreement was reached during a meeting between the National Teachers Association's lawyer and officials from the Attorney General's chamber.

SINTA's lawyer, Donald Marahare, says an agreement is being signed today before an announcement will be made for teachers to resume work on Monday.

Mr Marahare says the teachers' concerns over re-levelling pay will be looked into by an independent taskforce.
