All go for Solomons' USP campus

1:44 pm on 18 April 2013

Work on a new campus of the University of the South Pacific outside the Solomon Islands capital Honiara can begin following a lease signing and project launch ceremony at the Doma Festival of Pacific Arts village.

The USP-Doma land lease was signed by the Commissioner of Lands, Silva Dunga, the USP's Pro-Chancellor and Chair of USP Council, Ikbal Jannif and Doma's four landowning groups.

The Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo thanked the USP team for its patience, diligence, determination and commitment to having the fourth USP campus eventuate.

He says it is now up to the university to accelerate the campus's development, with the assurance the government will provide all the necessary support and assistance.

Mr Lilo says tertiary education will now be a right rather than a dream for the many individuals for whom it has been out of reach.
