More delays on Fiji political party registration process

1:55 pm on 23 April 2013

Fiji's Registrar of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, says it will not make any decisions on the applications for political party registration until all details are sorted out.

He has given the proposed Fiji Labour Party until Friday to respond to claims its party workers impersonated government officials during the party registration process in Ba.

Mr Saneem also says two other proposed parties, the Social Democratic Liberal Party, or SODELPA, and the National Federation Party, have accepted anomalies in the handling of their registration process.

He says in SODELPA's case this included members who registered up to three times, members listed with other proposed parties and names not on the National Register of Voters.

The Registrar also says the proposed NFP has acknowledged some of its members also belong to other proposed political groups but it denies allegations that its staff impersonated government officials in Kadavu.
