The former assistant attorney general in the Northern Marianas has filed a lawsuit against the former attorney general Edward Buckingham.
James Taylor says he was fired after he advised against the approval of government sole-source contracts that Mr Buckingham later approved.
Mr Taylor is seeking financial redress because he says Mr Buckingham dismissed him in 2011 without following proper procedures.
The Saipan Tribune reports his lawyer, Robert Torres, as saying that Mr Taylor was punished for doing his job for the CNMI while Mr Buckingham advanced his personal interests.
Mr Buckingham is considered a fugitive by authorities after he fled the territory to avoid being served a penal summons last year.
He is facing several criminal charges filed by the Office of the Public Auditor.
