American Samoa Governor sets up office to prevent fraud

7:11 pm on 25 April 2013

The American Samoa governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga, says the territory has long suffered the consequences of fraud so an office to prevent it is well justified.

This week the Governor set up the Office of Fraud Prevention and Investigation, appointing as director a former US Army investigator, Save Liuato Tuitele.

Lolo says this office will focus on fraud and abuse in government with findings referred to him for review before being sent to the Attorney General's office and police for further investigation.

"So by having that person on board [he] will be my eyes and ears to see if there is any possible fraud. But the idea is to prevent fraud and abuse and waste."
