Sport: South Pacific team loses to NZ in AFL curtain-raiser

A South Pacific selection have been beaten 54-21 by the New Zealand Hawks in the first of two Australian Rules matches in Wellington on Thursday.

The Hawks led at each break with the Pacific team managing one goal in each of the first two quarters before being held scoreless in the third and winning the final quarter 9-6.

The match was a curtain raiser for the AFL clash between Sydney and St Kilda at Westpac Stadium, which was won by the Swans.

The South Pacific team will play a final match against New Zealand on Sunday.
