Samoa Government provides temporary site for produce market

The Accident Compensation Corporation in Samoa says produce vendors selling their goods in Apia will be able to utilise a new temporary space from tomorrow.

The ACC chief executive, Malaeulu Lose Niumata, says the open space is on the site of the Fugalei Market which was demolished last year.

There have been ongoing concerns at the lack of a suitable site since Fugalei was closed and fenced off.

Malaeulu says the re-opened site will one of several places where produce sellers can now sell their goods to the public.

"We opened up part of the site for the market that was previously set up and we've opened it up and we'll be putting in tents until we finish building the market."

Malaeulu Lose Niumata says the temporary site will be available until the new permanent market is built - that is now expected to be completed early next year.
